Ingredients
For the Burgers
- 3 large butter croissants
- 450 g (1 lb) ground beef
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Toppings
- Lettuce leaves
- 1β2 tomatoes, sliced
- Pickles, optional
For the Burger Sauce
- Β½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp finely chopped pickles
- Β½ tsp garlic powder
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 15β20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden, and caramelized.
- Make the sauce: Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, chopped pickles, garlic powder, and black pepper in a small bowl.
- Cook the smash burgers: Divide the ground beef into 3 portions. Heat a skillet or griddle over high heat. Place each portion on the hot surface and press firmly into a thin patty. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 2β3 minutes per side until crispy around the edges. Add cheddar cheese during the final minute and let it melt.
- Toast the croissants: Slice the croissants in half and lightly toast the cut sides in the skillet until golden.
- Assemble: Spread burger sauce over the croissants. Add lettuce, tomato, the cheesy beef patty, and a generous spoonful of caramelized onions.
