French Onion Chicken Gratin
Ingredients
- 4 boneless chicken breasts
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 250 ml beef or chicken broth
- 150 ml heavy cream
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp fresh thyme
- 200 g Gruyère cheese, grated
- 100 g mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 30 g Parmesan cheese, grated
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
- Season the chicken with salt and pepper, then sear it in olive oil until golden on both sides. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter and slowly caramelize the onions for 20–25 minutes.
- Add the garlic, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and broth. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Place the chicken in a baking dish and spoon the onion sauce over each piece.
- Top generously with Gruyère, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is golden and bubbling.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.
