Classic Beef Lasagna

Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

For the Meat Sauce

  • 400 g lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 400 g marinara or tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Béchamel Sauce

  • 50 g butter
  • 50 g all-purpose flour
  • 500 ml whole milk
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

For Assembly

  • 8–10 lasagna sheets
  • 200 g shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 50 g grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Meat Sauce

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the onion until soft, then add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste, marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer for 15–20 minutes until thick and flavorful.

2. Make the Béchamel

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually add the milk while whisking continuously.
  4. Cook until the sauce becomes smooth and thick.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.

3. Assemble the Lasagna

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
  3. Add a layer of lasagna sheets.
  4. Spread meat sauce, then béchamel.
  5. Sprinkle with mozzarella.
  6. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
  7. Finish with béchamel, mozzarella, and Parmesan on top.

4. Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
