Classic Beef Lasagna
Ingredients (Serves 6–8)
For the Meat Sauce
- 400 g lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 400 g marinara or tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Béchamel Sauce
- 50 g butter
- 50 g all-purpose flour
- 500 ml whole milk
- Salt and black pepper
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
For Assembly
- 8–10 lasagna sheets
- 200 g shredded mozzarella cheese
- 50 g grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Meat Sauce
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté the onion until soft, then add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in the tomato paste, marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 15–20 minutes until thick and flavorful.
2. Make the Béchamel
- Melt the butter in a saucepan.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually add the milk while whisking continuously.
- Cook until the sauce becomes smooth and thick.
- Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
3. Assemble the Lasagna
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
- Add a layer of lasagna sheets.
- Spread meat sauce, then béchamel.
- Sprinkle with mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
- Finish with béchamel, mozzarella, and Parmesan on top.
4. Bake
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
