Classic Homemade Beef Lasagna

Ingredients

For the Meat Sauce

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 24 oz (680 g) marinara sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Cheese Filling

  • 15 oz (425 g) ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper

For Assembly

  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the Meat Sauce

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces.
  5. Drain excess fat if needed.
  6. Stir in the marinara sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  7. Simmer for 20 minutes.

2. Make the Cheese Filling

  1. In a bowl, combine the ricotta, egg, Parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until smooth.

3. Assemble the Lasagna

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Add a layer of lasagna noodles.
  4. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
  5. Add one-third of the meat sauce.
  6. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers two more times.
  8. Finish with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

4. Bake

  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  2. Bake for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  4. Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
