Loaded Steak & Caramelized Onion Sandwich
Ingredients
For the Steak
- 500 g (1 lb) beef sirloin or ribeye, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
For the Caramelized Onions & Peppers
- 2 large red onions, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the Sandwich
- 2 rustic ciabatta or artisan sandwich rolls
- 6 slices mozzarella or provolone cheese
- Lettuce leaves
- Dijon mustard or garlic aioli (optional)
Instructions
- Season the beef with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Let marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet. Add the onions and cook over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes until caramelized. Stir in the sliced bell peppers and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Increase the heat to high. Sear the steak strips for 2–3 minutes until browned but still juicy.
- Place the caramelized onions and peppers over the steak, then top with the cheese. Cover the pan for 1–2 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Lightly toast the ciabatta rolls. Spread garlic aioli or Dijon mustard if desired.
- Add lettuce to the bottom half of each roll, pile on the cheesy steak mixture, then close the sandwich.
- Serve immediately with fries, chips, or a fresh salad.
